2010 Motorcross Championship

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is the world’s most prestigious motocross series. The Series is managed and produced by MX Sports Pro Racing, whose mission is to raise awareness of motocross racing through the promotion of professional championship racing events nationwide. The series is also produced in conjunction with Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports, a global business that encompasses national and international action sports events, multimedia production and a consumer-based lifestyle brand.

Alli is owned by NBC Sports and MTV Networks and represents a vast network of athletes, fans, brands and properties. The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross series is sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, the premier professional motorcycle racing organization in North America. AMA Pro Racing operates a full schedule of events and championships across every spectrum of motorcycle competition.

In just four days, the engines will come to life and the crowd will rise to its feet as the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship drops the starting gate on its 2010 season at the Rockstar Energy Hangtown Classic in Rancho Cordova, Calif. This marks the 42nd running of the legendary event, making it the longest-running national on the schedule, as it returns as the season-opening round of the 12-race championship.

Expected to take part is defending 450cc Class champion Chad Reed. The Australian added the 2009 American Motorcyclist Association Pro Motocross title to his two AMA Supercross crowns, making him the most successful international rider in AMA history.

Reed will be joined by 2009 Hangtown 450cc winner Mike Alessi, Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short, Josh Grant, Ben Townley and 2009 Hangtown women’s champion Ashley Fiolek along with members of the host Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club, California State Parks representatives and local officials. The public is welcome and admission is free.

Officially, it’s known as the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship … but  most of us are like: The Nationals!

Here are some of the top name riders you’ll be seeing at the race tracks across the USA!

Ryan Dungey – Team Suzuki – not only did he win the 250 Outdoor MX title last year, he just won the 450 Supercross Championship this year. And he’ll be racing in the 450 Motocross class this year, riding with the number 5.

Chad Reed – Chad is on Monster Kawasaki. He IS the defending 450 Motocross Champion. Look for the big number 1 plate on his bike!

Mike Alessi – Mike rides the new KTM 350. A bit of of unknown, since he hasn’t been racing with the top guys yet this season. But you’ll know he’ll be fast on his KTM, racing with the number 800.

Grant Langston – Grant is a former champion in: The MX GP’s, Lites Supercross, and a National MX Champ when the class was called ‘125’. Grant rides with the number 8, and, he is now going to be teamed with Chad Reed at Monster Kawasaki! 450 Motocross!

Tommy Searle – Tommy is number 19 on KTM. He’ll be riding in the 250cc Lites class. He’s been out of action for a while in supercross, but he’s been riding and practicing for the outdoors!

Tyla Rattray – another rider that has not been in supercross recently because of injury – but Tyla is a former World Motocross Champion, and he’s ready to go on his Pro Circuit Kawasaki.

Jake Weimer – this is Jake Weimer’s last year in the 250 class. Since he just won the 250 West Supercross Championship, he’s got to be considered one of the top contenders in the 250 class.

Christophe Pourcel – Christophe is also in his last year in the 250 class. Last year he finished runner-up to Ryan Dungey in the 250 MX Championship. Christophe will be on the number 377 Kawasaki, and also has to be considered one of the front runners, if not the front runner, for the 250 championship.

Justin Barcia – he’s number 17, on the Honda, in the 250 class. We know you like him (as we do) because he let’s it all hang out, 100%, all the time!
