2010 MotoGP: Vanlentino Rossi Victory Opening Round

Valentino Rossi MotoGP 2010Valentino Rossi ended Casey Stoner’s domination in Qatar when he won the opening round of this season’s FIM MotoGP World Championship.

Stoner had won every race at the Losail circuit since he joined the Marlboro Ducati Motorcycle team in 2007 and he looked set to continue that record early on after he powered into the lead from pole position before surprisingly crashing out. The Australian lost the front end going into the first corner of lap six.

That left the stage free for the reigning champion Rossi to claim his 104th win. Rossi is looking for his 10th championship in all classes this season and few would bet against the 31-year-old achieving the feat after this excellent start.

Casey Stoner started the race with much promise. Yet eh Ducati Motorcycle rider fell in middle of the race and after leading the way and making the fastest lap. Stoner retired from the race, leaving it to Valentino Rossi to become the new Losail’s King for MOTOGP.

Rossi and the rest of the field open their season Sunday in the Persian Gulf nation of Qatar. The series’ 18-race season also includes two U.S. stops, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey on July 25 and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Aug. 29.
