Pourcel and Canard riding for 250-series Motocross championship

MOTOCROSS PRO 250-CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 12th and final round of the 2010 AMA Outdoor Motocross Series comes to the Pala Raceway in San Diego County on Saturday.

With the 450 Motocross-class championship already claimed by rookie phenom Ryan Dungey after his win Aug. 28 at Southwick, Mass., Round 12 will focus on the showdown between 250 Motocross-class rivals Christophe Pourcel and Trey Canard.

After last week’s race in Steel City, Pa., Pourcel leads Canard by 13 points. Despite having won five of the last six races, Canard needs to win at Pala and hope other top riders like Tyla Rattray or Dean Wilson can keep Pourcel out of second place, which would be enough to clinch the title.

Canard and Pourcel are graduating to the 450 Motocross-class next year, making this weekend’s race the last opportunity for either to claim their first 250 Motocross-series championship.

For Frenchman Pourcel, the dream of winning has traveled a long road. “This season has been one of my toughest yet,” he says. “I know Trey is going to give it his all this weekend. This championship has been my goal since I came to America.”

Moving to the 450 Motocross-class with the momentum of a 250 Motocross-series championship is top of mind for Canard.

“It’s pretty awesome to be in the title hunt and close to a championship,” he says. “I’m ready to go and hopefully can bring home a championship to the team at Geico Powersports Honda.”

The AMA Motocross 450- and 250-class races from Pala Raceway will air live on Speed starting at 7 p.m. ET.
